Have you ever bothered knowing who you are? You have names and gender which distinguishes you from others. But that is not enough; the best skill you will ever possess is rediscovering or reinventing yourself. Do you know that when you reinvent yourself, you will never need permission from others to make decisions? Self-reinvention will let you stop all the frustrations that result from investing your time in the wrong things.
Even though life is full of trial and error, which should let you settle on the best area to experiment with, knowing yourself will instill confidence that will help you understand your purpose and propel you towards a meaningful impact in the world.
How will you know who you are and what you should do in life? These are some of the steps that will propel you to knowing who you are:
- Find quiet
Many people do not know themselves because they fear being silent and alone. But you can only do a thorough self-evaluation alone and in quiet. When alone, you can be truthful to yourself to see every facet of your life, both good and bad.
Being quiet is a tool that many in leadership require. Have you ever wondered why the top management in many organizations often has separate or secluded offices? The office gives a leader a quiet and conducive environment to reflect on how the organizations they head can be productive.
2. Find Focus.
Focus on who you are rather than who you want to be
You already have a blueprint for whom you want to be. Can you become who you want without knowing yourself? No, it will forever be an illusion. Knowing who you are will let you see where you and your specific gifts fit.
Many ways will help you to discover yourself. But the best way is to perform personality and strength finder tests. Self-evaluation may not be perfect, but it will enable you to identify the areas of your strengths and weaknesses.
3. Find your strength and weakness
Identifying your strengths and weaknesses is critical in discovering who you are. It might take several trials and errors to identify your strengths and weaknesses, but never give up on this journey; knowing when to quit is a gift you should learn.
Consider quitting when you have put in adequate time, but your efforts are not fruitful. Quitting at the right time will give you room to make something better. For instance, you have been struggling in a toxic relationship; if you quit and leave, you will give yourself time to find a better love.
4. Find feedback
Asking for feedback is a great way to learn about yourself and how people perceive you and see how that pairs against your view. A leader interested in creating a legacy will value the feedback they receive from their clients and teams, as well as friends and family. Feedback will enable you to determine your strengths and weaknesses.
Your feedback should consist of these two questions: “What are some strengths I should develop?” and “What are some of the weaknesses l should work on?”
Others’ opinions might not be perfect, but the feedback collected will alert you on areas to improve on.
