Before joining any board, you need to:
- First understand your skill set and what you are bringing to the table
- Understand and identify which board you can make a significant input on.
- Invest in training and mentorship so as to understand your intended role on a board.
- Volunteer on boards such as your high school alumni, estate associations, to understand the basics of how boards work.
- Create a board profile that highlights the kind of past board work you’ve done.
